Lourmarin is one of the must-see destinations during a stay in the Vaucluse. This village, listed as one of France’s “most beautiful villages”, is home to a 16th-century Renaissance château, a true architectural gem. Admire its elegant facades and French garden. In Lourmarin, don’t miss the 11th-century church of Saint-André and its beautiful sculpted baptismal font. What’s more, the village is nicknamed the “bastion of poetry” for having welcomed writer Albert Camus, among others. His grave is in the cemetery near the church.
And while you’re out walking or cycling, stop off at the shell bridge known as the Pont de la Meirette. This historic monument spans the Aiguebrun river and was built in 1606 by the commune.
Finally, if you appreciate fine wines, schedule a visit to Château Fontvert, a renowned family vineyard. Organic since the early 2000s, this vineyard grows exceptional wines such as Syrah, Mourvèdre and white Grenache. Free tours of the cellar and winery are offered, as well as free tastings. The château is open daily during the summer season, from May to September.

The Château de Lourmarin is the perfect place for a family visit. This first Renaissance-style château built in Provence is open all year round. A visit to this prestigious historic setting is an opportunity to appreciate fine collections of furniture dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries, museum instruments and art prints. To make the visit even more fun for children, a treasure hunt is available.
Lourmarin also boasts beautiful surroundings. Indeed, the village is surrounded by hills, vineyards and olive groves, a feast for the eyes. Explore these exceptional landscapes on foot or by bike through the garrigue and lavender fields. What’s more, the Aiguebrun river runs close to Lourmarin. This is the perfect opportunity to relax on the banks of the river and enjoy a family picnic in the shade of the trees. This river is also the source of the Aiguebrun gorges, which attract rock-climbing enthusiasts. The river meanders through the Combe de Lourmarin, a valley of breathtaking scenery where time seems to stand still.
By car on the picturesque road that crosses it, on foot or by bike on the marked trails, take the time to admire this wild and unspoilt nature.
Finally, don’t miss the Lourmarin market in the Luberon every Friday morning. This exceptional market, with a view of the château, welcomes around a hundred local producers and craftsmen showcasing their wares. Discover one of Lourmarin’s specialties, the gibassié, a flaky cake with a golden crust.
